- Berths of the Cruise Liners
Many shipping companies start their routes to Northern and Western Europe from Hamburg. But also, short and transit trips start in the metropolis on the Elbe. For this reason, shuttle buses are generally used for arriving and departing guests. These then commute between the main station / airport and the respective berth. Four different berths are spread throughout the city. HafenCity, Altona and Steinwerder are reserved for large cruise ships. The smaller ships moor at the Überseebrücke.
- Berth HafenCity
The Cruise Center HafenCity berth is located at Chicagokai, Großer Grasbrook 19, and only a few meters from the terminal is Überseequartier subway station. The trains of the U4 line of the Hamburg public transport company HVV will stop here. Buses of the lines 111, 256 and 602 use the nearby bus stops. Short-term parking is available directly in front of the Cruise Center. Useful information and city maps can be obtained in the terminal at the tourist information stand. In the course of the construction work in this area of the city, the existing temporary terminal will be replaced by a modern new building in the next few years.
- Berth Altona
Further west at Van-der-Smissen Street 5, you will find the Hamburg Cruise Center Altona. Here, too, short-term parking spaces are available directly in front of the terminal. Buses of line 111 stop nearby. In the immediate vicinity, there is a pier for the port ferries 61 and 62. Useful information and city maps are available in the building, at the tourist information stand.
- Berth Überseebrücke
The Überseebrücke landing stage is located between Altona and HafenCity, directly next to the St.Pauli Landungsbrücken. There is no terminal building for passenger handling there. The berth is very centrally located and not far from many sights.
- Berth Steinwerder
The Hamburg Cruise Center Steinwerder is located at the Kronprinzkai at Buchheisterstrasse 16, and the modern terminal has separate check-in halls for arriving and departing guests. Buses of the lines 156 and 256 stop about 800 metres away at the bus stop "Argentinienbrücke". A large number of short- and long-term parking spaces are available, as well as a tourist information office in the building. Free parking is only possible for up to 20 minutes. If you would like to park there for the duration of the cruise, we recommend booking online at a cheaper rate.
- Hamburg Transport Association HVV
Public transport is provided by the Hamburg public transport association HVV. Several companies belong to this association, which operate bus, suburban and underground railway lines for the Hamburg city area, ferry lines for the port area, and some railways in the regional surroundings. Single tickets and day tickets are available from ticket machines in the stations or from the bus driver. City and harbour tours are offered by various providers. The sightseeing tours on land are mostly carried out according to the Hop On Hop Off principle with double-decker buses. The popular harbour tours usually start at the Landungsbrücken.

For extensive use of public transport, the Hamburg CARD or the Hamburg Card plus Region is a good option. Both variants are available as individual or group cards and entitle the holder to use buses, trains (2nd class) and the HADAG port ferries during the period of validity. They also entitle you to discounts on the regular admission prices at many attractions and providers, and on various offers. The group tickets are valid for up to 5 people of any age. The cheaper Hamburg Card can be chosen for 1-5 days, and covers the Hamburg city area in the AB area. The Hamburg Card plus Region can be purchased with a validity of one or three days. It is valid in the entire ABCDE area of HVV. The Hamburg Card is available from ticket machines, HVV service points and many hotels.
- Landungsbrücken
The St. Pauli Landungsbrücken are located centrally in the city and thus in the port of Hamburg. The origins of the landing stages date back to the year 1839. They were mainly intended for the steamships of that time. Badly damaged during the Second World War, the facilities were finally rebuilt between 1953 and 1955. Today, they serve as landing stages for the HADAG ferries, for the barges and ships of the popular harbour tours. In the eastern part of the upstream building arrangement, there is a gauge tower which shows not only the water level of the Elbe river, but also the current time. The integrated bell is activated every half hour. Snack and souvenir shops are available in large numbers. At the nearby station "Landungsbrücken" the trains of the lines S1, S3, U3 and buses of the lines 111, 112, 608 stop here.
- Elbtunnel
Located at the Landungsbrücken, the northern access to the impressive Sankt Pauli Elbtunnel is situated here. Opened in 1911, the "old" Elbtunnel with its two tubes, creates an underground connection to the opposite shore of Steinwerder. The differences in height are overcome by stairs and elevators, and historical and handsome freight elevators for cars are also available on each side of the tunnel. The tunnel is closed to motor vehicles at night and at weekends. The use of the St. Pauli Elbe Tunnel is free of charge for pedestrians and cyclists. From the Steinwerder lookout point you have a beautiful panoramic view of the Hamburg city scenery.
- Rickmer Rickmers
The museum ship Rickmer Rickmers is moored at the Landungsbrücken. The former cargo ship, which was put into service in 1896, has been open to visitors since 1987, and is also a landmark of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg. For interested visitors, it is open daily from 10:00-18:00 and costs 5 euros per person. For children from 4 to 12 years, 3 euros are charged. Temporary travelling exhibitions are presented regularly and various events take place.
- Reeperbahn
The famous Reeperbahn with its surrounding streets and squares, is considered to be the most sinful mile in the world. This street in the St. Pauli district runs north of the Landungsbrücken and can be reached on foot in 10-15 minutes. A lot of bars, discotheques and nightclubs can be found there. Hardly visited during the day and quite quiet, the Hamburg neighbourhood is increasingly filling up with the onset of dusk. Locals and tourists are often on the road until the early morning hours. The Große Freiheit side street is one of the most popular places to go in the district. Hans Albers and the Beatles have been set a monument with squares of the same name.
- Panoptikum
At the adjacent and parallel Spielbudenplatz, there are several theatres and the Panoptikum Wax Museum. It is interesting to see how much detail the current figures have compared to the older ones. The Panoptikum was already founded in 1879, making it Germany's oldest exhibition of its kind. An audio guide can be borrowed on site for a small fee. Admission for adults is 6 Euro each. It is open daily from 11:00-21:00. On Saturday 3 hours longer until 24 o'clock, and on Sundays the exhibition opens one hour earlier.
- Hamburg Museum
In the large city park Planten un Blomen, you will find the important historical Museum of Hamburg History. In the museum building, opened in 1922, you can learn a lot of interesting facts about the development of the city. Some exhibits of the permanent exhibition are up to 1200 years old. Besides numerous special exhibitions, the model railway in gauge 1 is also worth a visit. The museum is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00-17:00, Sunday from 10:00-18:00. Monday is closed. From the age of 18 years, admission costs 9 euros per person. If you are younger, you can pass for free.
- Hamburg's Michel
The 132-metre-high steeple of the Protestant Church of St. Michaelis clearly towers above the Hamburg cityscape. Also popularly known as the Michel, the building was newly erected in 1912 on Englische Planke 1 Street. The construction work was necessary after the building almost completely burned down in 1906. From the viewing platform of the Michel Tower, one gets great views of the city and the harbour. It can be reached on foot via 452 steps or more comfortably via an integrated elevator. But 52 steps must still be overcome. The church, crypt and tower can be visited from May to October, daily from 09:00-20:00, and from November to April, daily from 10:00-18:00. There is no entrance fee for entering the church. A tour of the tower costs 5 euros per person. For children aged 6 to 15 years 3,50 Euro are charged. Admission to the crypt costs 4 euros for adults and 2.50 euros for children. In addition, a cheaper combined price for crypt and tower is offered.
- St. Nikolai Church
The ruins of the St. Nikolai church can be found at the Hopfenmarkt. During the air raids of 1943, the former main church was largely destroyed. Today, the area is used as a Memorial to St. Nikolai with an integrated museum. On top of the preserved church tower, visitors are offered a viewing platform at a height of 74 metres, from where they have a great panoramic view. A glass and barrier-free elevator was installed to reach this platform. It is open daily from 10:00-17:00. The entrance fee for the museum and church tower is 5 euros per person.
- Speicherstadt
South of the St. Nikolai Memorial is the Hamburg Speicherstadt. This is a handsome, historic warehouse complex with former status as a free port. Today, the largely restored buildings house cafés, restaurants, museums and other interesting sights. Buses of the lines 6, 111 and 602 stop in the Speicherstadt, while the U3 line stops at the nearby underground station "Baumwall" and the U1 line at the eastern station "Meßberg".
- Miniatur Wunderland
For example, Kehrwieder 2-4 houses the world's largest model railway layout. The famous Miniatur Wunderland impresses with its great, loving attention to detail, and has been delighting young and old for years. In order not to overcrowd the premises, the number of visitors is limited. Therefore, waiting times may occur in the entrance area. An uncomplicated reservation in advance allows a quick access to the impressive exhibition at the desired time. The Miniatur Wunderland can be visited daily. The regular opening hours are Monday to Friday from 09:30-18:00. On weekends from 08:30-20:00 o'clock. On many days it is also open longer. Admission for adults costs 13 Euro each. Children under 16 years of age get access at the half price.
- Hamburg Dungeon
Right next door, the Hamburg Dungeon tells 600 years of Hamburg history in an unusual way. In their shows, actors show gruesome/scary episodes from the dark past. Modern special effects and two rides underline the scary, beautiful 90-minute experience. For children under 14 years of age, a visit is not or only partly suitable, and only possible when accompanied by an adult. For children under 10 years of age, a visit is not recommended, and admission is not permitted for children under 8 years of age. All others can visit the Hamburg Dungeon daily from 10:00-17:00. In the summer months until 18:00 hrs. Unfortunately, it is not allowed to take your own photos during the tour. Toilets are located in the entrance and exit area. Tickets are available on site or online. Combination tickets with other sights or city tours are also available.

- Speicherstadt Museum
In the nearby Speicherstadt Museum you can find out about the creation and daily operation of the famous former warehouses. The regular entrance fee is 4 Euro per person. The museum is open daily from 10:00-17:00. From December to February is closed on Mondays.
- Museum of Spices
The Spice Museum, which is almost next door, presents a variety of spices from all over the world. These can be touched and tasted in the 350 square metre exhibition. You can also learn interesting facts about the cultivation, processing and transportation of the products. The museum is open daily from 10:00-17:00 and the entrance fee is 5 Euro per person.
- Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall
Situated between the Landungsbrücken and the Cruisecenter HafenCity, the 110-meter-high building of the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall catches the eye. After several construction delays, the keys were handed over at the end of 2016, and the construction project was completed. The concert hall houses a large concert hall with 2100 seats and a small hall, which can accommodate 550 visitors. The building also houses several apartments, a hotel, a parking garage and several restaurants/cafés. A viewing platform at a height of 37 metres visually separates the socle from the glazed structure. This plaza runs completely around the building, thus offering a great panoramic view, and is accessible free of charge daily from 09:00-24:00. However, the number of visitors is regulated by the allocation of tickets. Plaza tickets are available from the ticket machines in the entrance area of the Elbphilharmonie Concert Hall and the Elbphilharmonie Visitor Centre. A pre-booking for a specific day is subject to a fee, and can be made at the Visitor Centre opposite or online. A charge of 2 euros per ticket will then be made. Access to the Plaza is conveniently via 2 escalators, or barrier-free through the use of lifts. The escalator leading away from the entrance area is unique in the world, with its curvature, and with a length of 82 metres, it is the longest of its kind in Europe.
- Prototype Car Museum
Shanghaiallee 7 is home to the privately run Prototyp Automobile Museum. The permanent exhibition shows rare sports and racing cars of the past. In addition, regularly changing special exhibitions are presented. It is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00-18:00. The museum is closed on Monday. Admission costs 13.50 euros for adults, and 8 euros each for children from 4 to 14 years. A café and a small museum shop are located on the first floor.
- The Maritime Museum
Not far from the car museum, the International Maritime Museum Hamburg is located at Koreastraße 1. On nine floors, the visitor learns many interesting things from 3000 years of maritime history. The extensive collection of illustrative ship models, for example, is impressive. The exhibition on marine research takes up an entire floor. Changing special exhibitions are also presented. The IMMH is open daily from 10:00-18:00. The regular entrance fee is 13 euros for adults. Families get access for 25 euros.

- Chile House and Chocoversum
Located in the immediate vicinity of the underground station "Meßberg", and not far from the architecturally worth seeing Chile house, it is possible to create your own bar of chocolate. This is done during the 90-minute tour in the building of the Chocoversum Chocolate Museum. Before the tour, you will receive interesting information about cocoa refinement. Tickets should be ordered online in advance for the desired date. Tickets for later days are available in the museum itself. The exhibition rooms are designed to be barrier-free, and are open daily from 10:00-18:00 hrs, as part of a guided tour. This costs 15 euros each for adults and 11 euros for children from 6 to 17 years. In addition, various events are offered, such as courses on how to make chocolates.

- Coffee Museum
Coffee lovers can visit the small Kaffeemuseum-Burg. This can be found in the Speicherstadt at St. Annenufer 2. A roasting plant with a shop is also operated here. In the historically designed café, you can also enjoy the finest and most diverse types of coffee. A guided tour of the exhibition lasts 60 minutes and costs 10 euros per person. The venue is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00-18:00. It is closed on Mondays.
- Altona Fish Market and Auction Hall
The Altona Fish Market takes place every Sunday from 05:00-09:30, and in the winter months from October to March from 06:00. Besides fresh fish, fruit, vegetables and various items of all kinds are offered. At often low prices, the loud market criers offer their goods to the visitors. A popular and worthwhile spectacle on the great Elbstraße. In the adjoining Fish Auction Hall, there are morning pints and brunch in the morning, and live music is played until noon.
- U-434
A Russian submarine has found a permanent mooring at the fish market. It was put into service by the Russian Navy in 1976 and is now used as a museum. The Submarine U-434 was on the oceans until 2002 and can now be visited daily from 09:00-20:00. Sundays a little later from 11:00 o'clock. The entrance fee is 9 Euros for adults and 6 Euros each for children from 6 to 12 years.
- Jungfernstieg
The Jungfernstieg is considered Hamburg's promenade and borders directly on the Binnenalster. Trains of the U1, U2, U4, S1, S2 and S3 lines stop at the subway and urban railway station of the same name. Boats depart from the shore, taking you to the Alster canal tours and round trips. Many shops, bars and restaurants are located there and in the adjacent streets. The Alsterarkarden and the Hamburg City Hall are in the immediate vicinity.
- Volkspark Stadiun
The Volkspark Stadium in the district of Bahrenfeld on Sylvesterallee, is the home ground of the football club Hamburger-SV, and has a capacity of 57,000 spectators. In addition to football matches, numerous major events are also held here. You can also learn a lot of interesting facts in the integrated HSV Museum, or you can take a look behind the scenes during a guided tour of the stadium. The museum is, except on match days, open daily from 10:00-18:00 and costs 6 euros entrance fee. The 75-minute stadium tours are offered several times a day, for a fee of 12 euros and only by appointment. The buses of line 180 stop directly on site. Trains of lines S3 and S21 stop at the nearest railway station Hamburg-Stellingen.
- Hagenbeck Zoo
The Hagenbeck Zoo, which is known far beyond the city limits, is located in the Stellingen district. Its origins go back to the year 1863. In addition to the beautifully designed and extensive parks, visitors are also offered a tropical aquarium for viewing. This was opened in 2007 and presents over 300 species of animals. Buses of the lines 22, 39, 181, 281 and 391 stop at the bus stop "Hagenbecks Tierpark", while the underground line U2 stops a few metres further south. The park and aquarium open daily at 9 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. During the winter months, the zoo is open until 16:30. If you want to visit both attractions, a combined ticket for adults costs 30 Euros each, and for children from 4 to 16 years 21 Euros each.
