- Berths of the Cruise Ships

The port of Málaga is centrally located at the city and looks back on a history of approximately 3000 years. The second most important cruise port in Spain has several landing stages. Normally, the big cruise liners moor at the somewhat distant but modern terminals A and B. Moreover, there are berths at the pier of the Muelle de Levante. Besides some shops, free WLAN is also available in the cruise terminal. Taxis are available in sufficient numbers and often the shipping companies offer a shuttle bus service. The shuttle bus takes the guests to the Plaza de la Marina in the old town, which is about 2 kilometres away, and costs 6-8 Euros per person, depending on the shipping company. On foot, one can calculate 20-30 minutes for this distance. Alternatively, a local shuttle bus is often used. This costs 4 euros for the return trip. Right at the city centre, there are the berths at the Muelle 1 and 2 that are reserved for the smaller ships. Due to the favourable location, no shuttle service is offered there. Stands of the tourist information are usually set up at all terminals and are opened after the arrival of the cruise liners.

- Public Transport in Málaga

The very well-developed bus line network is operated by EMT (Empresa Malagueña de Transportes). Many of the city buses meet in the Alameda Principal Street in the centre of Málaga. Tickets can be purchased in tobacconist shops and cost 1.30 euros per trip and person. Cheaper strips of 10 are also available. There is also a central bus station north of the main station for the interurban/long-distance bus lines. Málaga also has two subway lines that also meet at the main station. Lines L1 and L2 run daily from 06:30-23:00, on Friday and Saturday from 07:00-01:30. Trains leave every 10 minutes at the latest. More metro lines are planned, and some are already under construction. The official taxis in Málaga are painted white and have a blue diagonal stripe on the front doors.

- Sightseeing Tours

The famous red buses of City Sightseeing are also on the road in Málaga. In the Hop On Hop Off principle, the two routes are operated every 30 minutes from 09:40-18:30. A complete round takes about 80 minutes and costs 18 Euros each for adults. Children and teenagers from 5 to 15 years pay 10 Euro per person. Near the berths Muelle 1 and 2 are spread out, several stops can be found. So also, among other places at the Plaza de la Marina. Alternatively, you can also use one of the numerous horse-drawn carriages to explore the city. Ideally, the costs should be clarified in advance with the coachman.

- Tourist Information and Ferris Wheel

The Plaza de la Marina is located at Muelle 2, which is also the destination of the harbour shuttle buses. The local tourist information office is located directly at the square. There you can get a lot of information and among other things helpful city maps. The Ferris wheel Mirador Princess is visible from far away and is 70 meters high. The 42 air-conditioned gondolas each have room for 8 people. In order to be able to enjoy the great view at the top point, you pay 10 Euros per person for a ride. It is open daily from 10:30-23:00.

- Maritime Museum

At the Muelle 2 (Palmeral de las Sorpresas) there is the Aula Del Mar beside the landing stages. Museo Alborania is located there. This maritime museum mainly focuses on the Alborán Sea, the western part of the Mediterranean Sea. The exhibition area extends over two floors and also has a small kiosk where souvenirs are available. It is open during the summer months from July to mid-September, daily from 11:00-14:00 and from 17:00-20:00. From mid-September to the end of June, daily from 10:30-14:00 and from Thursday to Sunday from 16:30-18:30. Adults pay 7 euros per person and children and teenagers from 4-17 years pay 5 euros each.

- Park Areas

Parallel to the Muelle 2, there are the very nicely arranged park complexes of the Parque de Málaga. The shady city park radiates a pleasant calmness and invites to stay. Between the partly high trees and bushes, there are repeatedly some small monuments, pavilions and sculptures arranged like a promenade.

- Art Museum

In the harbour area, the colourful cube-shaped building of the Centre Pompidou Málaga is noticeable. The art museum is open daily from 09:30-20:00. Audio guides are available in several languages and explain the exhibits of modern art. The permanent exhibition and changing special exhibitions can be visited for 9 euros per person. This is also possible separately, in which case the entrance fee is reduced slightly. Cheap combined tickets for admission to other museums are also available.

- Promenade at the Harbour

The Muelle Uno was redesigned as a promenade in the course of the harbour expansion. Numerous bars, restaurants and various shops are located there. The lighthouse La Farola De Málaga was already completed in 1817 and served as an orientation guide for ships in former times. Various harbour tours start from the pier. The shops here are normally open Monday to Saturday from 10:00-22:00. Sunday is closed.

- Malagueta Beach

Malaga has a large number of beach sections. The sandy beach Playa la Malagueta is already well visible from the boat. It can be reached on foot in 10-15 minutes and is thus the closest beach to the mooring. This circumstance and also the direct situation to the city, make it popular with tourists and locals alike. Equipped with beach bars, sunshades and sunbeds for hire, showers, children's playground and floating platforms. More bars and restaurants can be found on the promenade across the street.

- More Beaches

Further east you will find the beaches of La Caleta, the pebble beach of Los Baños del Carmen, Pedregalejo/Las Acacias, El Palo, El Dedo, El Candado, Peñón del Cuervo, Fábrica de Cemento and La Araña. To the west of the port are San Andrés, the black sandy beach of La Misericordia, Sacaba, the nudist beach of Guadalmar and San Julián, located on the golf course.

- Bullring

Near the Muelle Uno is the La Malagueta bullring. The almost circular building was opened in 1876, measures 52 metres in diameter and has room for 14000 spectators. The arena houses a small bullfighting museum that was established in honour of the torero Antonio Ordóñez. With interesting exhibits and a lot of information the visitor is introduced to the typical southern Spanish tradition of bullfighting. The museum is open monday to friday from 10:00-13:00 and from 17:00-20:00. The entrance fee is 1,80 euros per person.

- Cathedral of Málaga

Different architectural styles can be seen in and around the cathedral of Málaga. As a result of the very long construction time of a good 254 years, the financial means ran out and only one of the two planned towers was finished. This is why the Catedral de la Encarnación de Málaga is also affectionately called by the local people "La Manquita - the one-armed". For a visit to the attached cathedral museum and the cathedral there is an entrance fee. This costs 5 euros per person. Children up to the age of 12 years get free admission when accompanied by a paying adult. The opening hours are Monday to Friday from 10:00-18:00 and Saturday from 10:00-17:00. Free admission to and during the church services is available and you can also have a look around. However, the services are not intended for sightseeing.

- Fortifications with a Panoramic View

The impressive palace complexes Alcazaba offer a very nice view to Malaga and the harbour. The royal palace dates back to the 11th century. The massive walls were added later and form a bridge to the neighbouring castle Castillo del Gibralfaro. The ascent and descent is done by some stony paths and stairs, with a lot of steps. A barrier-free access is possible with an elevator. This is located in the street Calle Guillen Sotelo, corner Calle Francisco Bejarano Robles and costs a fee of 4,40 Euro, including entrance fee. A small archaeological museum is located in the complex and displays interesting exhibits from past times. The regular entrance fee to the Alcazaba is 2,20 Euro. On Sundays, from 14:00 hrs, admission is free of charge. A combined ticket for the Alcazaba and Gibralfaro costs 3.55 euros per person. Open is in the months November to March daily from 09:00-18:00 clock. From April to October it is closed at 8 pm.

- Roman Theatre

At the bottom of the hill leading to the Alcazaba is the Teatro Romano. The Roman theatre was commissioned by the Roman emperor Cesar Augustus. After its completion, it was intensively used for several hundred years. In the course of the time, it increasingly decayed, was buried under earth and not rediscovered until the year 1951. After extensive restoration work, the historic theatre is still used today for a wide variety of events. The Teatro Romano can be visited from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00-18:00. On Sundays and public holidays from 10:00-16:00 hrs, whereby the theatre is generally closed on 01.01, 06.01, 01.05, 24.12, 25.12, 31.12 and Mondays. Admission is free during opening hours.

- Gibralfaro Castle

The castle Castillo del Gibralfaro, built later in the 14th century, was built to defend the city. In the meantime it was also used as a prison, but was largely destroyed in 1812. The view of the city and the harbour is excellent. In the former powder store, there is today an infopoint, in form of a small museum. The opening hours and entrance fees are aligned with those of the Alcazaba and are identical. The cheap combined ticket for both facilities currently costs 3,55 Euro per person and can be bought at the cash desk or at the vending machines. The buses of line 35 stop in the immediate vicinity of the castle. An approximately 700-meter-long, multilingual, signposted hiking trail is located near the adjacent hotel, which offers attractive views.

- Picasso Museum

The famous artist Pablo Picasso was born in Málaga in 1881. The Museo Picasso dedicated to him, and opened in 2003 in the building of the Palacio de Buenavista in Calle San Augustin 8. Over 200 of his works are exhibited in the rooms. Filming and photo-taking is strictly prohibited in the Picasso Museum. Changing special exhibitions are presented on the ground floor. It is open daily from 10:00-18:00. In the summer months it closes at 20:00 hrs. The entrance fee is 7 euros per person and includes the use of an audio guide. Every last Sunday of the month, two hours before closing time, you will receive free admission. Children and young people up to the age of 16 are generally admitted free of charge. Children under 13 must be accompanied by an adult. If admission is free, the audioguide is charged at one euro.

- Plaza de la Merced

The centrally located Plaza de la Merced is home to many bars, restaurants and cafés. The square is one of the oldest in Málaga and is quite busy until the evening hours. The monument in the middle was built in honour of General Don Torrijos and his 48 comrades. There is also a bronze statue of Pablo Picasso in the square, which depicts him sitting on a bench. The birthplace of the great artist also stands on the square. In the Casa Natal de Picasso, built in 1861, he spent the first years of his life. Today, the foundation seat and museum, the house is open for interested visitors daily from 09:30-20:00 o'clock. During the winter months it is closed on Tuesdays. The entrance fee is 3 euros per person. Video and photo recordings are not permitted in the building.

- Car Museum

Approximately 3 kilometres from the Plaza de la Marina is a former tobacco factory, where a privately run automobile museum has moved in after extensive renovation measures. The Museo Automovilistico was opened in 2010 and shows on 7000 square metres of exhibition space, more than 120 different vehicles of different epochs. It is open daily, except Mondays, from 10:00-19:00 o'clock. The entrance fee is 7 euros per person. The museum is easily accessible by public transport. The EMT buses of the lines 3, 15, 16 and 19 stop nearby, as well as the red buses of the green line of City Sightseeing. Furthermore, the metro line 2 stops at the stop Princess-Huelin.

Not far from the Tourist Information Centre at the Plaza de la Marina, there is a bicycle rental service. At Bike2Malaga you can get racing, trekking and mountain bikes. On request also with motor support as e-bike version. If you don't want to visit the shop, you can also have the rental bike delivered to a specific location. Moreover, there are different guided bike tours offered during which one gets to know a lot of interesting things about the sightseeings of Málaga. - Shopping Opportunities

At the north-west of the Plaza de la Marina, the popular shopping street Calle Marqués de Larios begins that extends up to the significant Plaza de la Constitución. A lot of shops and boutiques are located there and in the adjacent streets and alleys. The numerous localities also invite you to take a breather.
