Sardinia's capital Cagliari is located in the south of the island. An excursion there is only conditionally recommendable due to the distance. The one-way distance is a good 280 kilometres. For this, one can plan about 3 hours' drive with a rental car or train. And one also wants to go back. In most cases there is not much time left to explore the city.

- Neptune Grotto

However, only a few hundred metres are open to visitors.  It is located 150 kilometres from Olbia and can be reached by rental car in a good 2 hours. As it is only one metre above sea level, access is only granted when the sea is calm. Access is via the 654 steps of the Escala del Cabirol staircase, which runs directly up the steep face.
